Ka limu Hiʻukahi (Gracilaria hiukahi, species #3) is not named in honour of a hulu kupuna. Rather, it recognizes the hiʻukahi (limited knowledge) available to us about this limu. Further, the only photo available for this limu resembled a single-tailed fish, or hiʻukahi. The name provides hope that we will continually strive to expand our knowledge and learn more about limu.
