Ka limu Holi (Gracilaria wilmae, species #1) honours Aunty Wilma Healani Holi, an educator, Hanapēpē salt pond practitioner, CWG kupuna, and Kamehameha descendant. Aunty Wilma was dedicated to preserving ʻike kupuna (ancestral knowledge) and carried the kuleana (responsibility) to share the importance of her sacred lineage. Her work with paʻakai (salt) and her role in the repatriation of iwi kūpuna underscore our global ancestral connections to Papahānaumokuākea. The name Holi, a fragment of a longer sacred name, reflects the significance of cultural heritage.
