Ka limu Ihuwaʻa (Gracilaria ihuwaae, species #5) is named in honour of educator, scholar, member of the CWG, and one of the first Native Hawaiian representatives on the Reserve Advisory Council (RAC), Dr. Carlos Ihuwaʻa Andrade. Like an ihu (bow) that leads the front of a waʻa (canoe), Carlos has been a leader of our community, navigating turbulent waters to bring education to our people and protections on our oceans.
