Wāwaeʻiole o Kānepōhihi (Codium kanepohihi, Clade G) honours Kānepōhihi, who is a mother (or aunty) of a famous voyaging chief, Mōʻīkeha and Makaliʻi. During a time of famine, Makaliʻi took all the food and placed it in a net, hanging it out of reach. Kānepōhihi took pity on the hungry who asked for food. She changed herself into her rat form, climbed up to the nets, and chewed a hole in them, allowing the food to fall out to the hungry.
