Wāwaeʻiole o Pīkoi (Codium pikoi, Clade A) honours Pīkoi, also known as Pīkoiakaʻalalā/Piʻikoiakaʻalalā. Famed for his legendary skills of rat-shooting, some stories indicate that he also had a rat form. As Pīkoi is likely the most well-known rat in Hawaiian moʻolelo, this name hopes to honour the largest of the six Codium species.
